Your questions answered

WHAT ASSETS DO I NEED?

If you’re an international business person looking to immigrate to Canada, LBS can help you establish yourself in two ways – either through our Federal Immigrant Investor program or through the Québec Immigrant Investor Program. With the help of Laurentian Bank of Canada's in-depth expertise in our Private Banking, Commercial and financial teams, we also offer a wide choice of immigration consultants and lawyers to make your route through each process as speedy as possible.

WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

For both programs you must demonstrate management and/or business experience. Under the federal program this should consist of two years of business experience that entails either having managed five full time employees over a period of two years OR the ownership of a qualifying business and two of the following elements: jobs, sales, net assets or net income.

Under the new Québec regulations effective Febuary 2009, you need two years of management experience in the past five years in a legal farming, commercial, industrial or professional business; or you can have performed a management role for an international agency or a government. In all cases you must have performed duties related to the planning, management and control of financial resources and of the human or material resources under your authority.

WHAT ABOUT MY INTENTION TO INVEST?

You must give us a firm commitment to invest CAD$400,000 over a period of five years or choose our financing option.

How is the loan financed?

You can invest CAD$400,000 in total, in one go. But as there is no return on this investment over the five-year period, in order to allow essential investment, LBS and LBC have set a financing mechanism so the investment can be financed. This way, the investor can borrow a portion of the amount of the investment and LBC will make the investment in the investor’s name. In return, the LBC puts up the required deposit of CAD$400,000 in the applicant’s name.
